About WatchID

WatchID is the app that tells you what watch you are looking at. Point your camera at a wrist, upload a photo or a screenshot, and get the brand, the model and the closest reference numbers in seconds, with marketplace listings to compare. It is built in Paris by Horoview.

Why we built it

We are collectors first. Before WatchID we built Horoview, a search engine that gathers second-hand watch listings from around a hundred dealers and marketplaces, because finding the right watch meant opening a dozen sites every evening.

The next question was always the same: what is that watch? On a wrist in the street, in a film, in a listing with a blurry title. So we trained a computer-vision model on real reference photos and connected it to the Horoview catalogue. WatchID launched on the App Store in 2024 and now covers 100,000+ references from 500+ brands, with 1M+ watches identified.

How identification works

The engine reads the whole watch rather than the logo alone: dial layout, hands, indices, bezel, case geometry and printed text. It compares those features with reference photos and returns the closest candidates ranked by similarity. Because it matches at reference level, it can tell a Submariner Date from a no-date Submariner, or a 41 mm Royal Oak from a 39 mm.

Identification is not authentication. WatchID tells you which model a watch looks like; it does not certify that a watch is genuine or state its value. Our guides explain how to confirm a reference and what to check before buying.

Managing Director, Horoview

Christophe runs Horoview and WatchID, from the data pipeline that aggregates listings to the identification model and the apps. He writes the WatchID guides and answers support emails himself, in English and in French. A small team of collectors and engineers in Paris works with him on the catalogue, the model and the apps.
